Adverse Weather Planning
Project for ART 483 - Advanced Projects in Interaction Design: formulation of design scope, contextual research, observations of use, conceptual models, scenario development, conceptual design, prototyping, and evaluation in conjunction with Boeing. A quarter-long project asked groups to develop a touch-based system, using the Microsoft Surface table, to integrate into the flightdeck of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. After gathering insight from Boeing employees and seasoned pilots, we designed a system to optimize pilot-driven decisions when confronted with adverse weather conditions.
By using gestures to manipulate weather patterns and route options in three dimensions, a pilot would be able to look ahead to see weather systems (in various angles) they would encounter on their flight path, and make decisions like re-routing in order avoid turbulence, and ultimately, create a safer and more comfortable ride for passengers.
